"We want more workshops" was the expression I heard most after the end of each Abstract Mosaic Workshop :) Therefore, due to popular demand, I launched the Mirror Mosaic Workshop. What a success it has been so far! Open only to those who have already taken the Abstract Mosaics, this one-day activity, begins with the practical work right away. It involves lots of creativity and personal expression in a fun and innovative environment. I highly recommend it for my old students.

The next workshop will take place on Wednesday March 6th from 5 - 9pm and costs 1000le including the mirror (of size 50 x 60cm) and a...

Christmas always brings out the bling bling in us! The Mosaic Ornament Workshops were what I would simply call fun! In this 3-hour workshop, we let go and unleashed all our creative juices and came up with some fantastic results :) I look forward to more of this next year - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

I will be taking a month's break from mid December to mid January and hope to come back with some more workshops, new ideas and lots more material to experiment with. Stay tuned by subscribing to my newsletter at www.amalmosaicart.com or follow me on Instagram and Facebook.

See you all next year!!

A lot of people had been asking me lately why I had stopped offering my mosaic workshops... The answer is that since January 2017 (so for about a year and a half), I had completely devoted my time and efforts to establishing a non-profit mosaic project called Dahshur Mosaics with my wonderful partner Charlotte Sullivan. Now that it's up and running and needs less of our time, I began redirecting my attention to my Abstract Mosaic Workshops. This time, however, I decided to take a daring leap and conduct my workshops from home rather than from art centers around Cairo :)

After having completed 2 workshops in the...

Since March 2018, I've been involved in the teaching of mosaics to a group of 10 teenage girls at an orphanage in Maadi called Awlady. They have shown their enthusiasm from day one and it's been such a pleasure working with them. We are slowly progressing from very simple designs to more complex ones with more creativity and thought. We hope to eventually be able to display their products and put them up for sale.

If you are interested in organizing a similar workshop, please contact me to discuss the details.

On Friday Dec. 8th 2017, a 3-day story-telling retreat was organized by Sahar El Arishy's 18.213 at Ardi, Dahshur. As part of the retreat, I was invited to give a mosaic workshop to a group of female entrepreneurs for just 3 hours. Despite the tight timing, the atmosphere was great, the mood was very creative and those women created some brilliant pieces in such a short period of time!

To organize a similar workshop, customized to your own space and needs, kindly email me and we can discuss the details together.

Every 2 years, a mosaic festival takes place in Ravenna, Italy. I had always dreamt of attending one, and I finally made it to this year's one! On October 3rd 2017, I started it off with a 3-day mosaic workshop at Valeria Ercolani's studio. It was lots of fun to try out a new technique of mosaic making and meet new and old friends. Then we began a series of visits to the studios of famous mosaic artists in Ravenna, like Luca Barberini of Koko Mosaico, Luciana Notturni of the Mosaic Art School, and Paulo Raccani to name a few.  It was very interesting to see the private studios of these artists and watch how they work.

On the 1st of February 2017, my long awaited dream of starting a non-profit mosaic project has finally come to fruition :) Little did I know that it would end up in Dahshur, about an hour's drive from my home and in collaboration with a friend and mosaic artist Charlotte Sullivan, who lives there. We set up the workshop in her backyard, installed the hardies in their trunks, bought a wide range of marble rods and began teaching the village people of Dahshur. We started with the gateman and his wife and within a month had a group of 5 women, 5 men and 2 children all learning how to create mosaics using the ancient roman t...

This was the first time I get a group of Italians to take my workshop :) They were a pleasure to work with and had lots of creative potential!

October 26, 2016

This workshop was a completely new approach to mosaic art. Students were expected to have completed the “Introduction to Contemporary Mosaics” workshop or a similar course in mosaics. They were encouraged to explore with a wide range of material ranging from stones and pebbles to glass and ceramics and were allowed to unleash their creative potential through simple steps that lead them to create a unique piece of abstract art. It was really fun and liberating to see my students create genuine pieces of art that they created themselves without any drawing at all!

As always, the creative capabilities of people never cease to amaze me! Everyone starts off with the hesitant, apprehensive approach and ends up surprised at their own potential :)
