Since March 2018, I've been involved in the teaching of mosaics to a group of 10 teenage girls at an orphanage in Maadi called Awlady. They have shown their enthusiasm from day one and it's been such a pleasure working with them. We are slowly progressing from very simple designs to more complex ones with more creativity and thought. We hope to eventually be able to display their products and put them up for sale.

If you are interested in organizing a similar workshop, please contact me to discuss the details.

This was the first time I get a group of Italians to take my workshop :) They were a pleasure to work with and had lots of creative potential!

As always, the creative capabilities of people never cease to amaze me! Everyone starts off with the hesitant, apprehensive approach and ends up surprised at their own potential :)

For some odd reason, the group in this workshop seemed to be leaning towards geometrical styles in their designs :) It was a little bit of a challenge to interpret it into mosaics, but the results were very pretty!

After my amazing 3-day mosaic workshop at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli (please refer to previous blog), I began another 3 days of Exhibition and Conference organized by AIMC (the International Association of Contemporary Mosaics) in Spilimbergo, Italy on May 18th 2016. We started the conference with the opening of the exhibition "Mosaic in Contemporaneity" at the Thadea Palace. My pharaonic piece "Musician" was at display in the exhibit along with wonderful artworks from all over the world. All this was documented for us in a beautiful catalogue displaying images of our artwork and biography.

During this 3-day confer...

On April 17th and 20th, I held 2 consecutive one-day workshops at Art Café :) The class was smaller than usual and so we were able to create very different works of art. I'll be off to Italy for 10-days in May for an intensive 3-day workshop, a conference and an exhibition and so do not plan another workshop there before another month from today. Hope to see you there next time! To know more about my trip to Italy, please visit my next blog :)

The fact that it was a small group made this workshop very special. We were able to experiment with out of the ordinary mosaic art and the results were great as you can see in the pictures below!

It had been a while since I last gave a workshop at Art Café :) They moved premises in January and I got busy preparing for my exhibition in March, but finally I'm back! Their new premises is smaller, but cozy and bright - I love it :) We had a great workshop and lots of creative students - the pictures speak for themselves.

The project I've been looking so much forward to begins! The "Mosaic My School Project" involved about 40 primary school kids from a public school in Zahraa, Old Cairo called "The Fouad Galal Primary School". A collaboration between Amal Mosaic Art and Peace and Plenty NGO, it will be fully funded by a percentage of my sales during the exhibition. I began by visiting the school several times last month to select the wall which the children will mosaic, take measurements, buy the needed mosaic material, prepare the drawing to scale and finally today to take the first steps in realizing our piece of art!...
